When we talk about our Collision/Refinishing Technology core program, here’s what we say:

Our Collision/Refinishing students have one priority: Learn OEM standard body repair, including dent repair, welding, painting, detailing, and more.

After putting in the time to refine these skills with us, they’ll be comfortable in just about any collision, restoration, or custom shop out there.

Core Competencies

Collision Repair I

  • Cosmetic repair, including straightening dents with various tools and equipment, applying plastic body filler, and sanding and finishing
  • MIG-welding steel and aluminum
  • Performing cosmetic body repair
  • Proper tool selection for vehicle repair
  • Removing and replacing bolted-on parts
  • Understanding vehicle construction 
  • Vertical, horizontal, and overhead MIG welding steel and aluminum to I-CAR standards
  • Worker protection, including following the proper regulations and PPE in the shop 
  • Working with specialty tools and their use

 

Collision Repair II

  • ABS and traction control systems
  • Advanced Driveability Assist Systems (ADAS) 
  • Advanced welding, including proper sectioning techniques and procedures for OEM panel replacements, quarter panels, rocker panels, and A- or B- pillars
  • Airbag theory and diagnostics of airbag systems
  • Computerized measuring systems
  • Door skin removal and replacement
  • Structural diagnostics and measuring of a vehicle on a frame rack
  • Understanding suspension systems and wheel alignments
  • Windshield and back glass removal

Refinishing Technology I

  • Detailing of a vehicle before delivery to the customer
  • Identify dents and flaws in paint
  • Learning how to adjust air pressure, fluid delivery, and diagnose paint gun problems
